Protect Your Life and Property with a Driveway Alarm

The best method of protection, especially in a remote location, is a driveway alarm. It is also useful to receive home deliveries and notification that someone expected has arrived. There is ample warning if an intrusion occurs to react defensively. In some cases, driveway alarms will deter an intruder the second it sounds an alarm or activates lights.

There are two varieties of driveway alarms, wired and wireless. While both are good systems wireless alarms are easier to install with the added benefit of being portable. A wireless system is easily moved around a residence in such a way that any potential invader will not know where the alarm is located.

Wireless driveway alarms use magnetic or infrared sensors. The sensors are located in the area to the alarm is expected to protect. When a sensor is triggered, it will relay a message to a receiver in the home that will react with preset action. A wireless driveway alarm can be set to activate lights, emergency alarms, automatically call a prearranged phone number, and cameras.

Although cameras make the system more expensive, the addition is worth considering. A sensor sends a signal to the receiver, which activates the cameras that can be set to record the invasion. Alarms can be set that will automatically notify a security company who then sends an employee to check out the premises.

When choosing wireless driveway alarms there are several points to consider. The distance between the sensor and receiver need to be close enough to communicate. Different alarms come equipped with different ranges. If obstacles, such as trees or buildings are in between you will need a longer-range system. The outside unit should be weatherproof with the ability to work properly in weather conditions such as rain and fog.

There are two types of sensors, magnetic and infrared. Heat triggers one, and movement triggers the other. The decision between the two will be a personal choice and dependent upon the type of security required. Some alarms can be set not to sound an alert if the triggering object is less than forty pounds. Some alarm systems allow use with multiple sensors and receivers covering several entry points.

Determine what your priorities are and what you want accomplished by a wireless driveway alarm. Research the various models and features they offer. Consult with an expert to select the best driveway alarm for your needs.
