MAPS BS Kit Dakota Long Range Wireless Driveway Alarm System

The Dakota Long Range Wireless MAPS (MURS Alert Probe Sensor) BS Kit is a driveway alarm that will only detect vehicles. The BS kit consists of one transmitter with probe sensor and one base station transceiver. This kit is ideal for use in fixed locations, such as homes, shops or offices. It combines the features of the vehicle sensor driveway alert with the long range MURS Alert™ technology. The MURS Probe Sensor is very reliable and will not give false signals from large animals or other non-metallic sources. When the MAPS detects a vehicle, it will send an alert signal to either the base station (M538BS) or hand held (M538HT) transceivers. The M538BS and M538HT transceivers can also be used for two-way voice communications. The alert signals are spoken English (twice repeating the phrase “Alert Zone One,” “Alert Zone Two,” “Alert Zone Three,” or "Alert Zone Four”) and can easily be selected at the transmitter so that the different zones can be monitored at the simultaneously. The transmitter has five channels and 38 sub-channels for the user to choose from, which will help to eliminate interference from other users.

The transmitter operates on 6 AA alkaline batteries with a battery life of about one year under most conditions. The channels, sub-channels, and alert zones are all easily selected and, in most instances, should only take a minute to make the necessary changes. The MURS Alert™ can have many possible applications: it can be used by security guards, small businesses, or even by hunters who want to monitor their game trails — really any scenario that requires immediate notification when someone or something enters a monitored area.

The MURS (Multi-Use Radio Service) is a license-free service that allows the transmission of voice and data. MURS also allows a maximum of 2 watts of output power, which equates to a greater range than other license-free radio services. MURS was authorized by the FCC in November of 2000 as a private, two-way voice and data communications service for personal or business activities. The five MURS channels are only available on a shared basis. None of the channels are assigned on an exclusive basis, so it is up to the end user to cooperate in the channel selection to help avoid potential interference. FCC rules and regulations do allow for the use of external antennas with MURS.

The MURS Alert™ will give you real-time monitoring of remote locations up to several miles away. While this may sound a little vague at first reading, it is written that way because the range is fully dependent on the local surroundings. The units have been tested over flat ground to ranges of approximately four miles. However, if the user is in an urban area with many buildings, the range may be lessened significantly.
